In those moments when you think to look up from the virtual, how often are you horrified? Is it the realization that two hours have passed since you left your mind and body alone with no consciousness to consult? Maybe you are train riding, and you take a glance around to see it is almost everybody around you who is also consumed. Is the feeling of hopelessness that puddles in your chest too great so you must look down again?
These moments matter. The moments when the problem fully reveals itself to you. In its face, let us remember to exercise autonomy. To be autonomous is not to control your surroundings, but be intentional in your response to the happenings around you.
